    Parsons’ Bakery

Parsons’ Bakery This past weekend, the four of us went on a drive to Bountiful. Why in the world would I go to Bountiful? Well, it was to stuff my face with all things sweet from Parsons’ Bakery. Even though it was only the four of us, I bought enough to feed a family of 10. I’m one of those people that once I started ordering, I can’t stop. Owen requested a donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. Shocker. The toddler wanted the most colorful item in the case. Even though the plan was to sample the goodies at a local park, Owen demanded to eat his on the drive…

  • Beltex Meats Cubano sandwich
    Friday Feature

    Beltex Meats

Beltex Meats I’m not quite sure where to begin with my love of Beltex Meats. It’s a pasture raised, whole animal butcher shop. The meat cases usually include various specialty cuts, brined pork chops, sausages, duck liver mousse, terrines, head cheese, Jamaican beef patties, sauces, soups and more. Keep in mind they don’t always offer every cut or every housemade item, but if you had your heart set on something specific, let the butcher know and they’ll offer some equally delicious alternatives. They also can guide you on how to best cook the different cuts of meat. An added bonus? They make delicious sandwiches on Saturday (usually the Cubano) and…

    Fisher Brewing Co.

Fisher Brewing Co. It should be no surprise that I’m featuring one of my favorite places in Salt Lake City: Fisher Brewing Co. Even with a 4% ABV restriction, Fisher Brewing manages to make beers that have flavor. A few favorite options include the Galaxy Kolsch, C-Note, and the Glacial Pace IPL. They have rotating taps, so you can always look forward to a potential new option. The atmosphere is open and modern. You can see the brew tanks, which is my favorite part of the brewery. Another bonus? Service is always quick and friendly. Honestly, it’s as good as good can get. Ian and I try to get a beer there…

    Conestoga Ranch

Conestoga Ranch Last year, I swore off Bear Lake. I remember rather vividly thinking I will never, ever go back to Bear Lake. Why? Because of a disastrous attempt at camping with my 15 month old.  I’m pretty sure I had been looking at Instagram accounts of amazing, overachiever moms and thought to myself, “I’m going to be like them. And do all the things cool moms do!” Well, I quickly learned I don’t want to be just like them and camping with a 15 month old was terrible idea. Thus, my disdain for Bear Lake. Fast forward a year, and I’m given an opportunity to stay at Conestoga Ranch…

  • al pastor taco with meat, pineapple, cilantro, and onions from el morelense
    Friday Feature

    El Morelense

El Morelense If forced to choose one of the best bites of food in Utah, it would be the al pastor tacos from El Morelense.  The meat is slightly caramelized, topped with pineapple and placed on a soft and fresh corn tortilla. The condiments are complementary, allowing you to put on as much salsa, onion, cilantro and lime as you please. It’s a taco you’ll crave and dream of until your next visit. I promise. The other tacos, while not as good as the al pastor, are definitely tasty. The chorizo comes in a close second.  The highly seasoned meat balances beautifully with the acidic salsas and herbaceous cilantro. If you’re a lengua…

  • boiled wontons topped with chili sauce and scallions form tea bar
    Friday Feature

    Tea Bar

Tea Bar Taro boba. It’s one of my all time favorite drinks. Honestly, I shouldn’t like it. I’m not traditionally a sweet drink type of person. Sweetened ice tea? Ewww. Lemonade? I’ll pass. Gatorade? No thank you! But offer me a taro boba or bubble tea as it’s often called, and I’m silly putty in your hands. While I’ve sampled many bobas in Salt Lake City and West Valley, I have consistently come back to Tea Bar. Yes, the bobas are sweet. Some may think overly sweet. But Tea Bar has managed to balance the sweetness with other standout flavorings, including taro, almond, Thai tea, matcha, coffee, and many more.…

  • everything bagel and veggie cream cheese from rich's bagels
    Friday Feature

    Rich’s Bagels

Rich’s Bagels Bagels. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I dream of bagels embedded with everything seasoning, toasted, and smeared with a thick layer of veggie cream cheese. Where might I get this bagel fix I speak of? Rich’s Bagels. Located in Holladay, it has a complete locals feel. With patio type furniture, long walled mirrors, and a bulletin board covered with old photos, the ambiance is definitely unique. Even though I don’t love the atmosphere (my husband would disagree with this sentiment) the bagels completely make up for any loss of love.  A nice toothsome chew and seasoned liberally, they are the best bagels in Utah.…

  • lobster roll and chips from freshie's lobster
    Friday Feature

    Freshie’s Lobster Co.

Freshie’s Lobster Co. This Friday Feature is going to be short and sweet. Because there’s not much more to say than YES PLEASE! If you have yet to enjoy a lobster roll from Freshie’s you’re missing out. Big time. I’ll admit, the price tag breaks the bank a bit ($25 for the XL, $20 for the Real Mainah, and $11 for the Tourist), but they are 100% worth it. The tender, buttery meat is dusted with herbs and placed in a toasted and buttered roll. I’m not the only one praising their glory. They received “The Worlds Best Lobster Roll” achievement at the lobster roll festival in Portland, Maine. Yup,…

    Five 5eeds

Five 5eeds I fell in love with Five 5eeds simply by happenstance. Last summer, I was enjoying a staycation in Park City. In desperate need for lunch, my husband and I read a few Yelp reviews of Five 5eeds and decided to take a chance. Well, let me tell you, I’m glad we took that chance. Known for its local, seasonally produced Australian faire, Five 5eeds offers some of the best food you’ll find in Northern Utah. My favorite breakfast items include: Steal Cut Oatmeal, Hot Cakes, Smashed Avo on Toast, and Eggs Any Way You Like. While I have yet to try the Shakshouka, it is definitely a popular…

    Brass Smoothies

Brass Smoothies I remember my first Brass Smoothie like it was yesterday. Honestly, before ordering I questioned how someone could justify paying so much for a smoothie. Well, after my first sip, I immediately knew the answer. I could justify paying a bit more for Brass Smoothies because they were downright DELICIOUS. I also remember thinking I was screwed, because I would be craving a Brass Smoothie everyday from there on out. What makes Brass Smoothies so good? The use the fresh, high quality ingredients. The Limelight smoothie, one of my favorites, has fresh squeezed lime juice, cashews, coconut milk yogurt, kale, banana, vanilla and almond milk. It’s a perfect…
