    Vegetable Chili

Vegetable Chili Now that the weather is getting cold, it’s 100% appropriate to make one of my favorite foods: chili! While I love a good meaty chili, this one is different because it is vegetarian. Don’t worry, the absence of meat does not take away from this dish. It’s hearty, full of flavor, and truly satisfying. Manoli’s

Manoli’s I’ve got to admit when I first heard of Manoli’s, I assumed it was a typical Greek restaurant that served oversized gyros, sides of lemon rice, and desserts drenched in honey. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good gyro here and there but they aren’t an item I crave. Well, let me just say, my naive assumptions were wrong. Way wrong. Manoli’s offers modern Greek dishes that are full flavored, complex, and down right delicious. Since Ian and I love to try different dishes, we decided to share a few small plates. The sesame encrusted eggplant with yogurt chile cream and honey was perfectly crisp, salty, and slightly…

    Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding Well, the time has come. I’ve decided to start weaning my little guy from breastfeeding. It’s not that I don’t enjoy it, I actually do.  I’m just so done with pumping. I’m done with hauling my pump everywhere, always wearing a pumping bra, and feeling like a cow being milked 4 times a day. Since starting work again this week, the time has come. While pumping at home isn’t the worst thing in the world, pumping at work is. It’s terrible. I’m constantly worried that someone will unlock my room while I’m pumping (it’s happened before and yes, I had a sign on my locked door). I’m also tired…

    Chinese Pulled Pork

Chinese Pulled Pork When I first made my Chinese pulled pork, Ian about died from happiness. It takes an American classic – pulled pork – and has an Asian twist by cooking the meat in traditional Asian ingredients. While the meat is great in a wrap, on a sandwich, or in a salad, it’s also great just eaten as is. I highly suggest topping it with my slaw with miso dressing. This recipe is bound to impress. I promise.   Print Recipe: Chinese Pulled Pork Pulled pork with an Asian spin! This meat is great for sandwiches, in quesadillas, on salads, or eaten as is. Topped with slaw and it's…

  • Beltex Meats Cubano sandwich
    Friday Feature

    Beltex Meats

Beltex Meats I’m not quite sure where to begin with my love of Beltex Meats. It’s a pasture raised, whole animal butcher shop. The meat cases usually include various specialty cuts, brined pork chops, sausages, duck liver mousse, terrines, head cheese, Jamaican beef patties, sauces, soups and more. Keep in mind they don’t always offer every cut or every housemade item, but if you had your heart set on something specific, let the butcher know and they’ll offer some equally delicious alternatives. They also can guide you on how to best cook the different cuts of meat. An added bonus? They make delicious sandwiches on Saturday (usually the Cubano) and…

    Sleep Training

Sleep Training I never knew how difficult sleep training would be until I had kids. Before Owen and Collin, I thought I knew what tired felt like. I look back at pre-kids Leslie and think, “Seriously? You thought you were tired? Really? Really?” Ian and I were fortunate enough with Owen because he was relatively easy to sleep train. Around 5 months, he started to sleep through the night pretty consistently. Before Collin, Ian and I joked how our second kid would probably be the worst sleeper. Well, those jokes came back to bite us in the ass. From day 1, Collin has been a cuddler. Yes, a cuddly baby…

    Fisher Brewing Co.

Fisher Brewing Co. It should be no surprise that I’m featuring one of my favorite places in Salt Lake City: Fisher Brewing Co. Even with a 4% ABV restriction, Fisher Brewing manages to make beers that have flavor. A few favorite options include the Galaxy Kolsch, C-Note, and the Glacial Pace IPL. They have rotating taps, so you can always look forward to a potential new option. The atmosphere is open and modern. You can see the brew tanks, which is my favorite part of the brewery. Another bonus? Service is always quick and friendly. Honestly, it’s as good as good can get. Ian and I try to get a beer there…

    The Old Dutch Store

The Old Dutch Store I’m a sucker for a tasty sandwich. One of my favorite places to get my sandwich fix is The Old Dutch Store. It’s a deli meets specialty Dutch goods store. Most of the sandwiches come with meat in tube form (liverwurst, pate, salami, teawurst, or pork loin), tomato, mayo or miracle whip, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Simple but delicious. You can order just the sandwich or sandwich with a meal. The former comes with a small side salad, dessert, and pickle. If sandwiches aren’t your jam, they have often have specials that consist of sausages, potato salad, corned beef and cabbage, meatballs, cakes, cookies, and more.…

    Conestoga Ranch

Conestoga Ranch Last year, I swore off Bear Lake. I remember rather vividly thinking I will never, ever go back to Bear Lake. Why? Because of a disastrous attempt at camping with my 15 month old.  I’m pretty sure I had been looking at Instagram accounts of amazing, overachiever moms and thought to myself, “I’m going to be like them. And do all the things cool moms do!” Well, I quickly learned I don’t want to be just like them and camping with a 15 month old was terrible idea. Thus, my disdain for Bear Lake. Fast forward a year, and I’m given an opportunity to stay at Conestoga Ranch…

    Freshie’s Lobster Co.

Freshie’s Lobster Co. This Friday Feature is going to be short and sweet. Because there’s not much more to say than YES PLEASE! If you have yet to enjoy a lobster roll from Freshie’s you’re missing out. Big time. I’ll admit, the price tag breaks the bank a bit ($25 for the XL, $20 for the Real Mainah, and $11 for the Tourist), but they are 100% worth it. The tender, buttery meat is dusted with herbs and placed in a toasted and buttered roll. I’m not the only one praising their glory. They received “The Worlds Best Lobster Roll” achievement at the lobster roll festival in Portland, Maine. Yup,…
