Date Nights in Salt Lake City

Date Nights in Salt Lake City

Date nights in Salt Lake City are what I look forward to each week.  Being able to spend a few precious hours with Ian, eat (hopefully) tasty food, and decompress from the work week is exactly what I want on a Friday night.

The last few date nights were spent at Kobe Sushi and Saffron Valley.

A few weeks ago Ian and I watched A Chef’s Table about Ivan Orkin, the New York ramen master. It left us needing ramen ASAP.  Since we live roughly 3 or 4 minutes from Kobe Sushi, it was the go-to place for us.  While it’s not the best ramen in town or the fanciest place around, it is satisfying and relaxing.  I always get the tonkatsu, while Ian usually orders the shoyu.  Both were delicious and completely satisfying.  We also ate the gyoza, cucumber roll, and unagi nigiri.  All of which were tasty as well.  I will say my ramen craving was certainly satisfied.

This past weekend we decided to try out the new Saffron Valley near Sugarhouse.  First off, I will admit I am an adamant lover of the Bombay House.  I have been eating there since I was a child and have my usual eats: garlic naan and chicken tikka masala. But, for some odd reason, I relented and suggested we try out what everyone was raving about.  To be honest, we were both disappointed.

We did enjoy the garlic naan and paneer dosa, but the other dishes, saffron chicken pakoras, cashew malai kofta, and saag chicken were disappointments.  Either lacking in flavor, strange in flavor, or just not that appetizing, the food fell flat.  Even with food that didn’t hit the spot, it was still a time for Ian and I to relax.

I left with an even stronger belief that the Bombay House is and will forever be my go-to for Indian food.  And that I’m always right!

With a second baby coming in 8 short weeks, I know our date nights will be put on hold for a little while, so I’m trying to soak them in as much as possible.  Even if some dinners don’t meet expectations food wise, the wonderful company makes up for it.

Where are your go-to date night spots?

Do you look forward to your date nights as much as me?  Let me know where do you like to go.
