Buttermilk Fried Chicken

This buttermilk fried chicken recipe is a go-to in my family.  The chicken is moist, tender, and full of flavor.  The seasoning is crispy and pops in your mouth with hints of garlic powder and cayenne.  Served with a side of ranch and bbq sauce or hot sauce and blue cheese dressing, you will have yourself a very tasty dinner.

Recipe: Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Prep Time: 5 minutes        Cook Time: 10-15 minutes          Serves: 6 chicken strips

Ingredients:

2 boneless skin less chicken breasts, cut into strips and pounded
1 cup buttermilk
4-5 dashes hot sauce
Canola or vegetable oil for frying

Seasoning:

2 cups flour
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion power
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
2 teaspoons salt
Pepper

Directions:

Soak the chicken strips in buttermilk and hot sauce for at least 4 hours or preferably 24 hours in the refrigerator.  Just don’t go much more than 24 hours.

In a fryer or cast iron skillet add enough oil for the chicken to be submerged.  Heat oil to 360 degrees. In a medium sized bowl combine all of the seasoning ingredients.

Place the chicken strips (one at a time) in the seasoning.  Push the chicken strips down with a fork and make sure the seasoning gets in all of the cracks.

Place chicken in heated oil and fry for roughly 8-12 minutes, depending on how big the chicken strips are.  Fry 3-4 chicken strips at a time.
